For so long, I sat it a career I didn’t have a passion for and complained about it constantly.
Day after day, I’d say how much I wanted to do something else… but I didn’t take any action!
One day I saw a Tony Robbins video and he was talking about the idea of movement and momentum. Without movement in a direction you will never get the ball rolling, but once you do, you’d be surprised how quickly things start coming together!
I decided to start listening to at least one motivational video everyday (Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, Les Brown, etc) and it had a huge impact on increasing my desire and confidence in coming up with a solution.
When deciding what to do next career wise there is a lot that goes into it. You need to know what you want to do, what your best skills are, what your personality fits best with, etc. And most importantly you need to identify why you want to do something different.
In my case, I looked really hard at why I didn’t enjoy my job. Through that process, I realized that I wasn’t giving my job 100% of my effort. I wasn’t trying. I had gotten to a spot where I felt so entitled to something else that I had compromised my values and I was no longer being the best I could be.
Maybe it wasn’t the job. Maybe it was… me?
Turns out it was me.
I began to work really hard on being the best I could be at work, networking and encouraging people around me, and having an attitude of extreme gratitude for the blessing of working for such a great company. And I found that while it was not my passion, I did enjoy my job much more!
Fast Forward
Now, I am in a completely different career and have multiple side hustles that are building into what will be future businesses. I am loving it. But I don’t think I would be if I hadn’t learned the valuable lesson of being grateful for the moment.
If you are in a job you don’t like, I highly encourage you to write down ALL the reasons why it is a great job (i.e., they pay you, you get vacation time, you get sick leave, etc,) and focus on those things!
Speak them out loud every morning to yourself… and give 100%!
